Miao: Diary of a Barefoot Day in Early Spring

On an afternoon in March, the sunlight was just right. Miao went out barefoot and turned into that abandoned commercial plaza. No one was around, perfect. She stepped on the floor tiles, stepped on the grass growing in the tile cracks, stepped on a piece of withered leaf someone had left there. The spring stones were still cool, a shiver ran through her soles, which instead made her feel refreshed. The glass curtain wall reflected the sky. She walked over and saw her own barefoot shadow reflected on the wall. When tired from walking, she sat on the steps, her feet dangling in mid-air. The wind blew through the empty shops, a bit chilly. Miao didn't mind. She just wanted to stay like this for a while, to properly tread on this spring with her feet.
